How Soul Sisters United Started
After a 24-year struggle with alcohol and street drug addictions, Shelly-Anne Mckay, the creator of Soul Sisters United, discovered her path to sobriety. Along this journey, she unexpectedly recognized her emotional eating struggles, which had started at age five and had persisted into adulthood, using food as a refuge during uncertain times. For 17 years, she has been dedicated to understanding and overcoming her most challenging addiction: food. This dedication led to uncovering the root causes and the foundational elements necessary to achieve recovery.
In January 2022, Shelly-Anne transformed her expertise in emotional eating and food addiction into a board-certified program for professionals supporting individuals to recover from ultra processed food addiction, with recognition from National Board for Health and Wellness Coaches (NBHWC USA), the International Association for Professional Recovery Coaches (IAPRC USA) , the Health Coach Alliance (HCA Canada) and the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF) . Her mission is to educate healthcare professionals how to effectively support those of us dealing with this addiction.
She believed it was her "divine purpose" to offer inspiration, hope, and healing to others struggling with this issue. In March 2023, Soul Sisters United was established, with a focus on making ultra processed food addiction recovery accessible to all women, particularly those in underserved, remote, or unsafe communities.
Shelly-Anne is proud to have a team of compassionate, highly credentialed professionals who support the work of Soul Sisters United. Each of them have completed her professional certification program and has their own history with food. They are deeply committed to supporting the healing process for women who are aiming for a life filled with joy, health, and freedom from emotional eating and food addiction.
Soul Sisters United goes beyond being merely a community; it is a sisterhood of women all at different points on the recovery journey.
